Course Contents

This course aims to develop students’ advanced academic English skills within the field of economics. Students will enhance their ability to use discipline-specific terminology effectively, comprehend academic and professional texts, critically analyze information, and produce clear and coherent arguments both in written and spoken forms. The course also focuses on strengthening communication skills through discussions, presentations, and simulations, preparing students for both academic and professional contexts.

There are no prerequisites or co-requisites for this course.

The main course book is McCormick (2012), English for Economics in Higher Education Studies. Additional resources include MacKenzie (2010), English for Business Studies, and MacKenzie (2008), English for the Financial Sector. Supplementary materials such as the Market Leader series (Cotton et al., 2011; 2012), selected academic texts, case studies, and video content (e.g., TED talks) will also be used throughout the course.

Academic integrity is a fundamental principle of this course. Plagiarism, cheating, fabrication of information, or using sources without proper acknowledgment are strictly prohibited and will be subject to disciplinary regulations. Students are expected to produce their own work. Artificial intelligence tools may be used only to support the learning process and within the limits defined by the instructor; any misuse will be considered an academic violation.
