Course Contents

The magnificent buildings of Mediterranean history impress us with their scale, techniques and beauty. Students are aimed to develop a perspective on the architectural and urbanistic history of this region, which remains relevant for today's architects. After a brief glance at Prehistory, Egypt and Mesopotamia, the focus is mainly on ancient Greek and Roman periods. The goal is to analyse the formal, spatial and environmental elements of these architectural works and cities, and to provide students with fundamental knowledge on the historical development of architectural thought and practice. Buildings are seen not merely as documents of a distant past, but as living texts of the technical, artistic and cultural life of both their own era and contemporary society.
